Premier SE MKII Puts Cardas Copper in an HDMI 2.1a Cable
Pangea Audio's Premier SE MKII is the company's top HDMI cable. It supports the HDMI 2.1a standard with bandwidth up to 48Gbps, so 8K60, 4K120 and resolutions up to 10K are covered. Its 24 AWG signal conductors are Cardas Grade One Copper plated with 6% silver, and Jay Victor designed it.
6% Silver-Plated Cardas Grade One Copper
Pangea uses what it calls no-compromise Cardas Grade One Copper, the metal George Cardas developed for his own cables. Cardas calls it quite simply the best copper on the planet. A second factory plates it with 6% pure silver, because designer Jay Victor says silver plating is crucial to digital cable performance.
Pangea says the design makes the cable a must-have for audiophiles transmitting high-resolution audio over HDMI, delivering the best sound from high-end home theater processors. The 24 AWG conductors also keep the cable flexible for installation without compromising performance.
Swiss Machines, Nitrogen-Injected Foam and TDR Testing
Pangea says HDMI performance varies wildly with raw materials and how they are employed. It insulates the copper with premium nitrogen-injected polyethylene multilayer foam for significantly lower signal loss. Swiss-made production equipment keeps every signal pair exactly the same length, even through the twisting, so all signals arrive together.
Every Pangea HDMI cable is tested by Time Domain Reflectometry instruments, which Pangea says ensures the cables do not suffer from timing errors regardless of length. Dynamic HDR is supported, and the cable is backward compatible with older HDMI sources. A tough nylon braid protects the jacket.
The HDMI Plugs, Explained
Premier SE MKII ends in a full-size HDMI plug at each end. HDMI is the flat 19-pin plug on every TV, projector, receiver and console. One cable carries picture, sound and the control signals that let the devices talk. Pangea marks no direction, so either end can go to either device.
Who Is This HDMI Cable Best For?
- You want Cardas copper at a Pangea price — the signal conductors are the same Cardas Grade One Copper that Cardas uses, plated with silver
- You just bought a PS5, Xbox Series X or 4K/120 TV — HDMI 2.1a at 48Gbps covers 4K120 and 8K60
- You use HDMI for multichannel music — Pangea built it for audiophiles sending high-resolution audio to a home theater processor
- You are routing cable through a tight rack — 24 AWG conductors keep it flexible, and the nylon braid shrugs off abrasion
- Your run is longer than 3 meters — Pangea builds Premier SE MKII from 0.6 to 3.0 meters only. Call us and we will match a longer cable to your room
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Plug one end into the HDMI output of your player, streamer or console and the other into an HDMI input on your TV or receiver. Either end can go to either device. Then choose that input on the display or the receiver.
Then press play. Other and longer lengths available. Call for prices.
Pairs Well With
An HDMI cable is one link in a home theater chain. It usually joins these categories.
- Home Theater Receivers — the hub most HDMI cables plug into
- Digital-to-Analog Converters — for HDMI audio links and I2S over HDMI
- Speaker Cables — the last link after the receiver
- Power Cables — clean power for the display and the receiver
Frequently Asked Questions
What is HDMI 2.1a?
The most recent update of the HDMI specification, in Pangea's words. It supports 8K60 and 4K120, resolutions up to 10K and Dynamic HDR, with bandwidth up to 48Gbps, and it is backward compatible with older HDMI sources.
Why does the copper matter in a digital cable?
Pangea says HDMI performance varies wildly with the raw materials. It starts with Cardas Grade One Copper, slowly drawn with reduction annealing between steps, and plates it with silver because Jay Victor uses silver plating in all his digital designs.
What is Time Domain Reflectometry?
A test that sends a pulse down the cable and reads the reflections. Pangea says every Pangea HDMI cable is tested this way to ensure it does not suffer from timing errors regardless of length.
Who is Jay Victor?
Pangea calls him one of the biggest behind-the-scenes product designers in the audiophile world and a longstanding expert on cable technology. He designed the Premier HDMI cables with 24 AWG conductors to keep them flexible.
Is there a step up?
Not in the Pangea Audio HDMI range we carry. Premier SE MKII is the top of that ladder. If you want to go further, call us and we will talk through the whole chain.
