Pangea Made the Prime for the First Real System
Pangea Audio's Prime is the first rung of the brand's RCA interconnect line. Jay Victor designed it. He has spent more than forty years designing cables and connectors for brands around the world. The Prime carries his approach into a cable built for a first real system.
Forty Years of Cable Design, in the Entry Cable
The conductors are 99.99% pure oxygen-free copper. They are twisted together, then wrapped in a double-sided aluminum and Mylar shield. A woven fabric jacket covers the run. Pangea calls that jacket highly flexible yet very tough. It is what you handle when you route the cable behind a rack.
Inside the Prime: Copper, Foam, and Foil
Each conductor is insulated with foamed polyethylene. The foam is filled with tiny air bubbles. Pangea says the air lowers dielectric absorption, the small share of signal an insulator soaks up and gives back late. Air holds very little charge, so the foam behaves more like air than solid plastic.
A Split Pin That Grips the Jack
The RCA plugs are machined brass, gold plated, with a POM plastic insulator inside. The center pin is split down its length. Pangea says the split lets the pin compress as it enters the jack and grip it. Gold plating on the contacts resists corrosion.
Who Is This Interconnect Best For?
- You are connecting a first real system — a DAC, streamer or phono stage to an amplifier over RCA, with 99.99% oxygen-free copper in the path, so the cable stops being the afterthought
- Your gear sits in a tight rack — the woven jacket bends without fighting you, so the plugs sit straight in their jacks instead of under strain
- You want shielding at the entry level — a double-sided aluminum and Mylar shield wraps the twisted pair, which Pangea uses to keep radio and power-line noise off the signal
- You swap components often — the split center pin is made to grip each jack as it goes in, so a plug seated after a swap stays seated
- Your left and right inputs sit far apart — Pangea says the RCA ends reach jacks up to five inches apart. Inputs spread wider than that need a cable built as two separate runs. Browse our Interconnect Cables, or call us and we will match one to your gear
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Plug one end into a line-level output on your source, a DAC, streamer, CD player or phono stage. Plug the other into a line-level input on your amplifier or preamp. Keep left to left and right to right at both ends. Push each plug on until the split pin takes hold.
Plug in, and play. Other and longer lengths available. Call for prices.
Pairs Well With
An interconnect is one link in the chain. It usually joins these categories.
- Integrated Amplifiers — the usual input end
- Digital-to-Analog Converters — DAC output to amplifier
- Phono Preamplifiers — phono stage to line input
- Speaker Cables — the last link to the speakers
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the Prime shielded?
A double-sided aluminum and Mylar foil shield wraps the twisted conductors. Pangea uses it to block radio and electrical noise before it reaches the signal.
What are the plugs made of?
Machined brass, gold plated, with a POM plastic insulator around the pin. The barrel is 13.2 mm at its widest. Measure the gap if your jacks sit close.
What is the jacket made of?
A woven fabric. Pangea calls it highly flexible yet very tough. It bends around a shelf edge and takes years of handling.
Is there a step up from the Prime?
Cardas Crosslink is the next step we recommend. It uses multi-gauge conductors in Cardas's Golden Section stranding, with Teflon and cotton insulation and double shielding.
