What Happens When the Shelves Fill Up

Two hundred records weigh about a hundred pounds, and all of that sits low. Mass down near the floor is the cheapest stability there is — the center of gravity drops, and the whole frame becomes harder for anything in the room to move.

The open back matters for a different reason too. Tonearm cables, a ground wire and a power lead all have to get somewhere, and reaching behind a loaded turntable is much easier when there is nothing behind it but air.

Built by Hand, Before the Records Go In

No tools at all. Threaded rods run inside the steel posts and you turn the posts by hand until each shelf and its braces clamp together. Most people have the frame standing well inside half an hour.

Set the spike feet and level the rack while it is empty. A hundred pounds of vinyl makes a rack very difficult to tilt, and reaching a foot underneath a full one is a job nobody enjoys twice.
