No screwdriver, no wrench, no hex key. Threaded rods run down inside the steel posts, and you turn the posts by hand until each shelf and its pair of crossmembers are clamped together. Allow yourself twenty minutes the first time and you will not need all of it.

Set the spike feet before any gear goes on. Getting the rack level while the shelves are empty saves lifting a fully loaded rack to reach a foot underneath it later.
