Two Hundred Watts of Swedish Restraint
The A35.2 is Primare's stereo power amplifier, and the natural partner to the PRE35 preamplifier. It makes 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 400 watts per channel into 4 ohms.
Bridged to mono it delivers 800 watts into 8 ohms. A pair of them is a genuinely serious system, built from two identical boxes rather than from a compromise between size and output.
The amplification is Primare's UFPD 2, the company's own analog Class D technology. Analog control of a switching output stage is the part Primare has spent years refining, and it is what the 35 series is built on.
Inside the Chassis
Connections are complete without being cluttered. One stereo pair of balanced XLR inputs and one stereo pair of RCA, so the amplifier sits behind a balanced or single-ended preamplifier equally well.
Two 3.5mm 12V trigger connections and an RS232 port handle system integration, which is what an installer needs when the amplifier is part of a whole-house system rather than a single room.
The chassis measures 430mm wide, 400 deep and 145 high, and weighs 11.7kg. It comes in black or titanium, matched to the rest of Primare's 35 series, and the US warranty runs three years.
Who Is This Amplifier Best For?
- You already own a PRE35 — the A35.2 is the matching power amplifier, built to the same dimensions and finishes, so the pair stacks as one system rather than two purchases.
- Your speakers need current — 400 watts per channel into 4 ohms means the amplifier gains strength as the load gets harder, which is what a difficult speaker actually needs.
- You may want monoblocks — bridged to mono each A35.2 makes 800 watts into 8 ohms, so a second unit builds a reference system one box at a time.
- Your system is installed, not just plugged in — two 12V trigger connections and an RS232 port let the amplifier fold into an automation system instead of sitting outside it.
- You want the power stage and the control stage separate — PRE35 handles volume and source selection, or any streamer/DAC preamp will
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Connect your preamplifier by balanced XLR or RCA, and speakers to the binding posts. For mono, set bridged mode on each amplifier before connecting anything to it.
Use the 12V triggers to bring the system up together, and the RS232 port if an installer is folding the amplifier into a control system.
