A 30 Millimeter Acrylic Platter Cut for the RPM 3 Carbon

This is Pro-Ject's Acryl it platter for the RPM 3 Carbon, sold each. It is a 30 millimeter slab of precision-machined acrylic that replaces the platter the deck ships with, sliding onto the existing bearing with no modification.

A metal platter rings, and the felt mat that ships with one exists to damp that ring. Acrylic behaves acoustically much more like vinyl than metal does, so the record can sit straight on the platter with nothing in between at all.

Fit and Materials

The platter is 30 millimeters of machined acrylic — substantially thicker than the 20 millimeter Acryl it platters Pro-Ject makes for the Debut and Essential families, and heavier with it. Mass and material are doing two different jobs here.

Fitting is a straight swap onto the RPM 3 Carbon's existing bearing — nothing is modified and nothing needs adjusting mechanically. The record will sit at a new height once it is on, which is the one thing to attend to afterwards.

It is cut for the RPM 3 Carbon. Pro-Ject machines each Acryl it platter to a particular bearing and sub-platter, so a platter from the Debut or Essential line is not an alternative.

How Do You Fit It?

Slip the belt off and lift the existing platter clear of the bearing. Lower the Acryl it into place, refit the belt and turn it by hand to check it runs true. Put the record straight onto the acrylic — the felt mat comes out for good. Re-check arm height for the new record height.
