Pro-Ject's Drive Belt for the RPM 10 Carbon and Signature 10
This is Pro-Ject's own drive belt for the RPM 10 Carbon and the Signature 10, sold each, one belt per turntable. Pro-Ject makes it for those two decks, so it matches the belt the turntable was supplied with rather than approximating it.
These are Pro-Ject's upper-range turntables, where the motor sits apart from the plinth and the belt spans the gap between the two. That arrangement keeps motor vibration out of the chassis altogether, and in doing so it puts rather more of the speed accuracy onto the belt itself.
The Original Part for Two Specific Decks
Fit and Materials
It fits the Pro-Ject RPM 10 Carbon and the Signature 10, and those two only. Pro-Ject's range runs to a great many models with different drive geometries, and belts are not shared across them — the part number is the fitment.
Pro-Ject publishes no dimensions for the belt, which is the practical argument for buying the original rather than measuring and hoping. A belt slightly too long runs slack; a slightly short one loads the bearing. Neither shows itself until the speed begins to wander.
Who Is This Belt Best For?
- You own an RPM 10 Carbon or a Signature 10 — the two turntables this belt is cut for
- Your belt is slack, glazed or broken — the one component that puts a deck out of action entirely
- You want the original part — made by Pro-Ject for these decks, not a generic loop
- You would rather have a spare — a separate-motor turntable is unusable the moment a belt goes
- You own a different Pro-Ject — the range does not share belts across models, so check turntable belts for yours
How Do You Fit It?
Lift the platter off. Slip the old belt from the motor pulley and the sub-platter, and wipe both clean and dry. Loop the new belt around the sub-platter and then over the pulley, keeping it flat and untwisted, and check the motor unit has not shifted. Refit the platter and turn it by hand before switching on.
Pairs Well With
What most owners replacing a belt shop next.
- Stylus force gauges — the other setting that drifts quietly over the years
- Record cleaning solutions — a new belt deserves clean records under the stylus
- Record brushes — a dry sweep before every side
- Cartridge alignment tools — worth re-checking whenever the platter comes off
Frequently Asked Questions
How many do I need?
One. The belt is sold each and both turntables are single-belt designs.
Which turntables does it fit?
The Pro-Ject RPM 10 Carbon and the Signature 10. Pro-Ject cuts belts per model, so one from another Pro-Ject turntable is not a substitute.
When should I replace a belt?
When it looks glazed or feels slack, when the platter takes longer than it used to to reach speed, or when speed will not settle. A belt hardens and stretches gradually, so the change creeps up on you.
