A Decorated Turntable, Now in Its Final Run

The Debut Carbon EVO was Pro-Ject's refinement of the best-selling Debut line, adding a one-piece carbon fiber tonearm, electronic speed selection, and suspension elements borrowed from the EISA-award-winning Pro-Ject X1. It ships with a factory-installed Sumiko Rainier moving-magnet cartridge.

This generation has since been succeeded by the Debut EVO 2, which moves to a non-magnetic aluminum platter and a newer cartridge — the Carbon EVO shown here is the outgoing design, while remaining stock lasts.

An 8.6-Inch Carbon Fiber Tonearm

A Tonearm Usually Reserved for Pricier Decks

The one-piece carbon fiber tonearm with integrated headshell increases stiffness and cuts unwanted resonance — a material normally reserved for far more expensive tonearms. Continuous-run, high-purity copper internal wiring runs to a shielded termination box.

Low-friction synthetic sapphire tonearm bearings and TPE-damped motor suspension carry over directly from Pro-Ject's pricier X1, along with its height-adjustable, TPE-damped aluminum feet, an unusual amount of shared engineering at this price.

Push-Button Speed and a Heavy, Damped Platter

Electronic speed selection switches between 33 and 45rpm at the push of a button, with no belt to move between pulleys by hand. A heavy, 3.75lb steel platter with TPE damping keeps playback stable and quiet.

The factory-installed Sumiko Rainier moving-magnet cartridge can later take a Sumiko Olympia or Moonstone stylus in the very same cartridge body, a genuine upgrade path once you've had time to learn what you like.

How Does It Connect to Your System?

Connect the included semi-balanced phono interconnect to an amp or receiver's phono input, or to an outboard phono preamp if your amp doesn't have one built in — there's no phono stage inside the turntable itself.

The dedicated grounding wire in that cable connects to your amp's ground terminal, cutting down on hum before you even sit down to listen.
