What You Need to Know
The Turntable That Made Real Hi-Fi Affordable, Refined Again
The Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 is the newest generation of the Debut, the belt-drive turntable that has introduced more listeners to true audiophile vinyl than any other deck since 1999. It's handmade in the EU. The Pick it MM EVO cartridge arrives mounted and aligned, so you're playing records minutes after unboxing.
Technology You Can Hear
The 8.6″ one-piece carbon tonearm is stiff and light, so the stylus stays planted in the groove. You hear it as steadier images and cleaner bass. Below it, a 3.75-lb aluminum platter with a TPE damping ring mutes the ringing bare metal adds, keeping quiet passages quiet.
Speed changes at a button press — 33 or 45 RPM, no belt to move by hand. Inside, a generator builds a fresh sine wave for the motor. That shields it from noisy wall power and keeps speed rock-steady.
Built to Grow with You
The non-magnetic platter welcomes moving coil cartridges when you're ready to upgrade. A True Balanced output path is available with optional Pro-Ject cables and phono stages. The deep gloss black plinth hides its connections underneath for a clean look on the shelf.
Critics Agree
The Debut EVO 2 is one of the most decorated turntables in its class, including What Hi-Fi?'s Product of the Year 2025 (Best Turntable £500–£750).
- Hi-Fi Choice, Editor's Choice Award (2025) – "the best turntable I've listened to under £1,000" — Ed Selley
- StereoNet, Product of the Year 2025 (Turntable) – "smooth and fun, yet surprisingly sophisticated at the price"
- StereoNet, Applause Award (2024) – "outstanding value for money… an excellent choice" — James Michael Hughes
Is This Right for You?
A quick gut-check before you buy:
- You want real hi-fi vinyl without fuss. Pre-mounted cartridge, push-button speed, and set-and-forget belt drive make this an ideal first serious turntable — or a big step up from an all-in-one.
- You have (or will add) a phono stage. There's no phono preamp built in. You'll need an amp with a phono input, or an external phono preamp.
- You plan to upgrade someday. MC-friendly platter and an optional True Balanced path mean this deck grows with your system.
- You'd rather listen than tinker. It's a manual deck that rewards a level, stable shelf. If you want auto-return, Bluetooth, or USB ripping, this isn't that turntable.
Setup & Installation
Setup takes about ten minutes. Fit the platter and belt, set the counterweight to 18 mN, and connect the included Connect it Phono E cable to your phono input.
Give it a level spot about 16.3″ wide by 12.6″ deep; three height-adjustable TPE-damped feet make leveling easy. If your amp has no phono input, add a phono preamp (sold separately — see our phono preamp collection).
Features & Specifications
One-Piece Carbon Tonearm — An 8.6″ carbon arm with CNC-milled aluminum bearing block tracks the groove with precision.
TPE-Damped Aluminum Platter — The 3.75-lb balanced platter spins records on a quiet, stable foundation.
Electronic Speed Change — Switch 33/45 RPM at a button press while regenerated power keeps speed steady.
Ortofon-Developed Cartridge Included — The Pick it MM EVO's split-pole pins deliver a notably flat frequency response.
Adaptive Anti-Skating — Tracking force compensation adjusts itself across the record, a refinement from pricier decks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 need a phono preamp?
Yes. There's no phono stage built in, so connect it to an amp or receiver with a phono input, or add an external phono preamp.
Is the cartridge really ready to play out of the box?
Yes. The Pick it MM EVO comes mounted and aligned from the factory. You just set the counterweight and anti-skating per the quick-start guide.
Can I use a moving coil cartridge with this turntable?
Yes. The aluminum platter is non-magnetic, so moving coil cartridges work when you're ready to upgrade.
Does it have Bluetooth or USB?
No. This is a pure analog deck, built to put every dollar into sound quality.
What's included in the box?
The turntable with pre-mounted cartridge, dust cover, Connect it Phono E RCA cable, 15 V power supply, and a 7″ single adapter.
What's the difference from the original Debut Carbon EVO?
The EVO 2 adds push-button electronic speed change with regenerated motor power, adaptive anti-skating, an aluminum (MC-friendly) platter, and the newer Pick it MM EVO cartridge.
