A Feature-Packed Turntable That Rewards Attentive Listening
The Debut Pro S extends Pro-Ject's Pro series in a striking all-satin-black finish, including hand-painted parts. Manual controls invite you to interact with the turntable, without extra switches, LEDs, or labeling to distract from the essentials.
It ships with a Pick it S2 C moving-magnet cartridge, pre-installed and aligned at the factory, running on a 10-inch S-shaped aluminum tonearm built specifically for serious cartridge exploration down the road.
As with all Pro-Ject turntables, the Debut Pro S is handmade in Europe using premium materials throughout, right down to its CNC-milled aluminum tonearm components and its hand-painted satin black finish.
A 10-Inch S-Shaped Tonearm, Built for Precision
An S-Shape Tonearm with a CNC-Milled Bearing Block
The S-shaped design increases effective mass compared to a straight tonearm, a deliberate choice that suits cartridges on the heavier side while providing excellent damping. Its 10-inch effective length keeps tracking error low across the whole record, including the demanding inner grooves.
A CNC-milled bearing block adds a new degree of resolution, and both tonearm height (VTA) and azimuth are fully adjustable, so you can fine-tune the setup for the included cartridge or one you add later.
A TPE-Damped Aluminum Platter and Balanced Output
The die-cast aluminum platter is precision-machined and balanced, with a TPE ring on its underside adding damping and rotational mass for steadier speed. Electronic speed control switches between 33 and 45rpm at the push of a button, and an included round belt also enables 78rpm.
A balanced RCA/ground phono output lets you run single-ended today and add a balanced mini XLR cable and a compatible phono stage, such as Pro-Ject's own Phono Box S3 B or Phono Box DS3 B, whenever you're ready.
Who Is the Debut Pro S Best For?
- You want a striking, all-satin-black turntable — the hand-painted finish is as much a design statement as a listening one
- You want a cartridge already installed and aligned — the Pick it S2 C arrives factory-mounted, ready to play
- You like exploring different cartridges — the S-shaped tonearm and adjustable VTA/azimuth make swapping easy
- You're planning to add a balanced phono stage, now or later — the built-in output path is ready whenever you are
- You want the most advanced Debut available — the Debut Reference 10 steps up further, with a carbon-aluminum tonearm and acrylic platter
How Does It Connect to Your System?
For now, run the included RCA/ground phono cable to your amp or receiver's phono input, or to an outboard phono preamp if your amp doesn't have one built in.
To run balanced, add an RCA-to-mini-XLR phono cable and a compatible balanced phono stage with a mini XLR input.
Pairs Well With
Where the Debut Pro S goes from here:
- Phono preamplifiers — needed if your amp has no phono input, balanced or otherwise
- Cables — a balanced mini-XLR cable is a separate purchase whenever you're ready to go balanced
- Audio racks — a rigid, level shelf lets the damped feet do their job
- Record cleaning accessories — clean records sound better and protect the stylus
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Debut Pro S include a cartridge?
Yes. The Pick it S2 C moving-magnet cartridge comes pre-installed and aligned at the factory.
Can I swap in a different cartridge?
Yes. The S-shaped tonearm and adjustable VTA/azimuth make it straightforward to explore other MM or MC cartridges as you find what you like.
Do I need a balanced phono stage to use it?
It works fine without one. The RCA/ground output runs with any standard phono stage; the balanced path is there whenever you want to use it.
How do I change speeds?
Flip the switch. Both 33 and 45rpm are electronic, with an included round belt enabling 78rpm as well.
How does it compare to the Debut Reference 10?
The Reference 10 steps up further, with a longer carbon-aluminum tonearm and an acrylic platter in place of aluminum, at a higher price.
What's the warranty?
A two-year limited manufacturer warranty covers the Debut Pro S.
