The Compact Ground it Deluxe for Debut, Essential and 2Xperience Decks
The Pro-Ject Ground it Deluxe 2 is sold singly. It is a heavy equipment base filled with granular damping material and finished in dark grey piano lacquer, 435 by 65 by 340 millimeters (17.1 by 2.6 by 13.4 inches) and 8.5 kilograms (18.7 pounds). It stands on adjustable spikes, three or four.
A turntable on a rack or sideboard picks up footsteps, motor hum and speaker energy through the furniture. Pro-Ject makes the Ground it Deluxe to put mass and damping between them, so the turntable rides on the base rather than the shelf.
Pro-Ject makes three versions of the base. The Deluxe 2 is the one sized for the Essential and Debut lines, the RPM 1, 3 and 5 Carbon, and all 1Xpression and 2Xperience models.
Three Bases, Three Footprints: Match the Base to the Deck
Fit, Load and Materials
Pro-Ject publishes no load rating for the Ground it Deluxe. It lists the turntables each base is made for, and the Deluxe 2 covers the Essential and Debut lines, the RPM 1, 3 and 5 Carbon, and all 1Xpression and 2Xperience models. Any turntable whose plinth and feet fit inside 17.1 by 13.4 inches will sit on it.
The base is 2.6 inches tall with its adjustable spikes and 45 millimeters (1.8 inches) without. The spikes fit in three or four positions. Add that to the turntable's height when checking a rack shelf.
The chassis is filled with granular damping material, which is where most of the weight comes from. The lacquer is Pro-Ject's dark grey, made to match the charcoal finish of its turntables. Pro-Ject also offers the base for other hi-fi components.
Who Is the Ground it Deluxe 2 Best For?
- You own one of the decks Pro-Ject names for it — the Essential and Debut lines, the RPM 1, 3 and 5 Carbon, and all 1Xpression and 2Xperience models
- Your turntable sits on a rack or sideboard that carries footsteps — the damped mass sits between the deck and the furniture
- You want the base to match the turntable — dark grey piano lacquer, the same tone as Pro-Ject's charcoal finish
- You may move the base under an amp or phono stage later — Pro-Ject offers it for turntables and other hi-fi
- Your turntable is an Xtension or Signature 10 — the Ground it Deluxe 1 is the larger 19.7 by 15.7 inch base for those decks
How Do You Set It Up?
Clear the shelf and set the base where the turntable will stand. Level it with the feet until it sits still and does not rock. Lower the turntable onto it, centered, with its own feet on the lacquer. Re-level the turntable if its feet adjust. Cue a record and listen.
Pairs Well With
What most Ground it Deluxe 2 owners shop next.
- Turntables — the component that gains most from a still, level base
- Turntable accessories — levels, mats and clamps for the same setup
- Phono preamplifiers — the next component in the vinyl chain
- Record cleaning accessories — a clean groove is the other half of quiet playback
Frequently Asked Questions
How many do I need?
One per turntable. The base is sold singly and carries the whole deck. A second base can go under a phono stage or amplifier, which Pro-Ject also offers it for.
Which Ground it Deluxe fits my turntable?
Go by the plinth. The Deluxe 2 is 17.1 by 13.4 inches on spikes, for the Debut, Essential, 1Xpression, 2Xperience and RPM 1 to 5 Carbon. The Deluxe 1 and Deluxe 3 are 19.7 by 15.7 inches for the Xtension Evolution and Signature 10, on spikes or magnetic feet.
Spikes or magnetic feet?
The Deluxe 1 and Deluxe 2 stand on adjustable spikes, three or four of them. The Deluxe 3 stands on height-adjustable magnetic feet. All three level on an uneven shelf.
How much height does it add?
About 2.6 inches with the adjustable spikes, or 1.8 inches without. Your turntable keeps its own feet and sits on top, so add both when you check the shelf above.
Will the spikes mark my shelf?
Spikes concentrate the weight on a point. On wood or a fine finish, set a spike plate or disc under each one. The Deluxe 3's magnetic feet spread the load without spikes.
