This is Pro-Ject's aluminum sub-platter for the X1 and X2, sold each, and it covers the B variants of both. It replaces the standard sub-platter with one diamond-cut from aluminum to closer tolerances and greater mass.

Everything a platter does is inherited from what is underneath it. The sub-platter carries the belt, sits in the bearing and defines how true the whole assembly runs — which makes it the least visible part of a turntable with the most influence on the result.

Fit and Materials

It is diamond-cut aluminum machined closer than the standard X-series part. The tolerance is what matters: a sub-platter that runs truer in the bearing wobbles less, and the added mass gives the belt a steadier thing to drive.

It fits the X1 and X2 including their B variants, and those only. Pro-Ject machines each sub-platter to a particular bearing, so a part from the Debut or Classic line is not an alternative even where the dimensions look close.

How Do You Fit It?

Slip the belt off and lift the platter clear. Withdraw the old sub-platter from the bearing well, keeping it upright so the bearing oil stays where it belongs. Lower the new one in, let it settle, refit the belt and the platter, then turn it by hand to check it runs true before switching on.
