The Classic Evo Sub-Platter, for an Older Classic or Classic SB
This is the Classic Evo sub-platter, sold each. It brings an older Pro-Ject The Classic or Classic SB up to Classic Evo specification, replacing the standard sub-platter with the diamond-cut aluminum part the Evo ships with.
What separates a Classic from a Classic Evo is not one large change but several small ones, and the sub-platter is among them. It is the part the belt drives and the part the bearing turns in, so its tolerances set the ceiling for everything above it.
Diamond-Cut Aluminum, Machined Closer
Fit and Materials
It is the diamond-cut aluminum sub-platter fitted to the current Classic Evo, machined to tighter tolerances than the part your older deck left the factory with. More mass, less play in the bearing, and a truer pulley face for the belt to sit on.
It fits The Classic and The Classic SB, and it is specifically the upgrade path to Evo specification rather than a generic replacement. If your deck is already a Classic Evo, this sub-platter is the one it left the factory with.
Who Is This Sub-Platter Best For?
- You own an older The Classic or Classic SB — this is the part that brings it to Evo specification
- You would rather upgrade than replace — a sub-platter swap is a fraction of a new deck
- You have already done the belt and the mat — this is the next thing under them
- You want the factory part — the same sub-platter Pro-Ject fits to the current Evo
- You own a Debut, X1 or X2 — those take their own sub-platters, listed in turntable parts and add-ons
How Do You Fit It?
Slip the belt off and lift the platter clear. Withdraw the old sub-platter from the bearing well, keeping it upright so the bearing oil stays where it belongs. Lower the new one in, let it settle, refit the belt and the platter, then turn it by hand to check it runs true before switching on.
Pairs Well With
What most owners upgrading a turntable shop next.
- Turntable belts — worth replacing while the platter is off
- Cartridge alignment tools — a change in record height means re-checking geometry
- Stylus force gauges — the other measurement to re-take afterwards
- Turntable mats — the surface the record actually sits on
Frequently Asked Questions
How many do I need?
One. A turntable takes a single sub-platter.
Which turntables does it fit?
Older Pro-Ject The Classic and The Classic SB turntables, bringing both to Classic Evo specification. A current Evo already has it.
Do I need to change the belt as well?
Not necessarily. But you have the platter off already, and if the deck is old enough to want the Evo sub-platter then the belt has probably done its share of years too.
