The Wallmount it 5 — The One for a Stud Wall
The only mount in Pro-Ject's turntable range built for lighter wall construction. Where the rest of the line asks for masonry, Pro-Ject recommends installing this one "on less massive walls such as wood or plasterboard, as a vibration damping is integrated."
For most American homes that sentence decides the purchase. Interior partitions here are usually timber studs and drywall, and a stiff, undamped bracket bolted to one has nothing solid behind it to work against.
Why Damping Changes the Requirement
What the Wall Was Supposed to Do
An undamped wall mount is deliberately rigid and relies on the mass of the masonry behind it to absorb energy. Take the masonry away and that energy has nowhere to go: the wall itself becomes a large panel, free to move and to ring.
Building damping into the mount moves that job off the wall and into the product. It is why this model exists as a separate item rather than as a finish option, and why it is not simply the dearer version of the others.
Frame and Adjustment
Rigid steel frame construction, as across the range, with height-adjustable spikes to level the board. Getting that level right is the last step of any wall install, because a plate fixed to a wall is rarely perfectly true first time.
Size and Capacity
Overall 460 x 60 x 425 mm, which makes it the slimmest frame Pro-Ject builds — 60 mm tall against the 90 mm of the compact masonry model. The usable surface is 460 x 400 mm, and maximum load is 30 kg, about 66 pounds.
That 400 mm depth is worth noting: it is deeper than the 355 mm of the entry models while the frame itself is shallower. You get more board and less bracket. Finish is matt black or walnut.
Who Is the Wallmount it 5 Best For?
- Your walls are timber studs and drywall — this is the only model in the range specified for them
- Your floor is suspended — the reason to go on a wall at all, and common in the same houses that have stud walls
- You want the slimmest frame — 60 mm tall, the least of any model here
- You want a choice of finish — matt black or walnut, where the rest of the range is black only
- Your walls are solid brick or block — then you do not need the integrated damping, and the undamped models in wall mounts and platforms are built for masonry
How Do You Install It?
Use fasteners rated for your wall construction — on a stud wall that means finding the studs, not relying on plasterboard anchors. Level the plate, mount the board, set the spikes, then put a spirit level on the platter rather than the shelf and re-check tracking force with the turntable in place.
Pairs Well With
What most owners fit alongside a wall mount.
- Isolation components — for what goes between the shelf and the turntable
- Cartridge alignment tools — for releveling and checking the arm afterward
- Stylus force gauges — re-check tracking force after the turntable moves
- Tonearm lifters — a wall shelf is harder to reach across than a rack
Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of wall does it need?
Pro-Ject recommends less massive walls such as wood or plasterboard, because the damping is integrated. It will work on masonry too — you simply do not need what you are paying for.
Will my turntable fit?
The surface is 460 x 400 mm, deeper than the 355 mm of the entry models. Measure your deck across the feet rather than the plinth.
How much will it hold?
30 kg, about 66 pounds — the same rating as the rest of Pro-Ject's range. On a stud wall the fixings will reach their limit well before the shelf does.
Do I still need to find the studs?
Yes. Integrated damping addresses vibration, not pull-out strength. A turntable hanging off plasterboard anchors is a different problem entirely.
Which finishes are available?
Matt black or walnut. It is the only model in the range Pro-Ject offers in a wood finish.
