High Mass with Magnetic Isolation

The Xtension 9 Evolution weighs more than 35 pounds. Its heavy CNC-machined MDF chassis provides a firm base for the platter, motor, and tonearm. The added mass helps control vibration while keeping the turntable stable during playback.

Three powerful magnetic feet isolate the chassis from the surface below. The turntable appears to float above its support, helping reduce vibration from speakers, footsteps, and the listening room.

Heavy Damped Aluminum Platter

The precision-balanced aluminum platter weighs 5.4kg, or nearly 12 pounds. A thermoplastic elastomer damping ring inside the platter controls ringing and unwanted resonance.

A vinyl layer forms the top playing surface. This gives the record a stable surface while reducing the need for a separate record mat. The heavy platter also creates a flywheel effect for smooth rotation and stable speed.

Magnetically Supported Ceramic Bearing

The platter rotates on an inverted ceramic-ball bearing with magnetic support. The magnetic system reduces pressure on the main bearing, which helps lower friction, mechanical noise, and vibration.

A heavy metal block adds support and damping around the main bearing. This combination allows the platter to rotate smoothly while keeping bearing noise away from the cartridge.

9-Inch Carbon-Fiber EVO Tonearm

The Xtension 9 Evolution includes Pro-Ject’s 9-inch EVO carbon-fiber tonearm. Its one-piece arm tube is light, stiff, and designed to control unwanted resonance.

The tonearm uses inverted precision bearings made to ABEC 7 standards. A silicone-damped cueing lift lowers the stylus gently, while the damped counterweight helps control tonearm and cartridge resonance.

You can adjust vertical tracking angle, cartridge azimuth, tracking force, and anti-skating. Four counterweights support cartridges weighing from 4 to 14 grams, giving you a wide range of moving magnet and moving coil cartridge choices.

Choose Your Own Cartridge

No cartridge is included with this version of the Xtension 9 Evolution. The medium-to-low-mass carbon-fiber tonearm works with many high-quality moving magnet and moving coil cartridges.

Your cartridge must be installed, aligned, and adjusted before the turntable can play records. Cartridge choice also determines which type of phono preamp you need. A moving magnet cartridge requires an MM phono input, while a low-output moving coil cartridge requires a compatible MC phono preamp.

The turntable includes a five-pin-to-RCA phono cable for connection to your phono preamp. It does not have a built-in phono preamp.

Electronic Speed Control

A precision DC-driven AC generator provides clean power to the motor. Push-button controls let you switch electronically between 33⅓ and 45 rpm without moving the drive belt.

The belt-drive system keeps the motor separate from the platter and cartridge. This helps prevent motor vibration from reaching the stylus while the electronic control system maintains stable speed.

Record Puck and Dustcover Included

The included record puck holds the record firmly against the vinyl-covered platter. This improves contact between the record and platter and can help flatten small record warps.

A hinged dustcover protects the platter and tonearm when the turntable is not in use. A detachable phono cable, external power supply, and the required cartridge counterweights are also included.

Setup and Placement
