The Rega Planar 8 is a high-performance manual turntable made for listeners who want speed, clarity, and precise record playback. Light and Rigid by Design

Rega believes a turntable plinth should be light and stiff so it cannot store energy that may later enter the music. The Planar 8 uses an aerospace-developed Tancast 8 polyurethane foam core covered by thin, rigid outer layers.

Rega’s double-brace system strengthens the important area between the tonearm and central bearing. This design keeps mass low while creating a firm path between the parts that read and support the record.

Triple-Layer Glass Platter

The 18mm triple-layer float-glass platter places extra mass around its outer edge. This creates a flywheel effect that helps the platter rotate smoothly. A low-mass central bearing assembly and Reference EBLT drive belt support quiet operation and stable speed.

RB880 Precision Tonearm

The included RB880 tonearm uses a one-piece aluminum arm tube designed to reduce unwanted resonance. Its precision bearing assembly allows the stylus to follow the record groove freely and accurately.

The tonearm includes a low-capacitance phono cable terminated with locking RCA plugs. This provides a secure connection to your phono preamp and helps protect the small signal produced by the cartridge.

Neo MK2 Electronic Speed Control

The custom-matched Neo MK2 power supply uses a crystal-controlled DSP generator to send a clean and stable signal to the 24-volt motor. Electronic controls let you switch between 33⅓ and 45 rpm without moving the belt.

The Neo MK2 also provides user-adjustable fine-speed control and an anti-vibration motor circuit. These features help the Planar 8 maintain accurate pitch while reducing motor noise.

Choose Your Own Cartridge

No cartridge is included with this version of the Planar 8. The RB880 tonearm can be used with many high-quality cartridges, including compatible moving magnet and moving coil designs.

Your cartridge must be installed, aligned, and adjusted before the turntable can play records. Cartridge choice also determines which type of phono preamp you will need. A moving magnet cartridge requires an MM input, while most moving coil cartridges require a compatible MC input.

Rega cartridges with three-point mounting can make installation easier on the RB880. Other cartridge designs may require careful alignment and, depending on cartridge height, a tonearm spacer.
