The Planar 8 was inspired by Rega’s reference Naiad turntable. Instead of using a heavy base to control vibration, Rega created a very light and rigid skeletal plinth. Its aerospace-developed Tancast 8 foam core is placed between thin, stiff outer layers to reduce stored energy that could color the sound.

Rega’s double-brace system adds strength between the tonearm and main bearing. An 18mm triple-layer float-glass platter provides a strong flywheel effect, while the low-mass central bearing and Reference EBLT drive belt support stable, quiet rotation.
