130 Grams of Milled Steel, for the RB220 and Four Other Rega Arms
This is Rega's own replacement counterweight for the RB220 tonearm, sold each. It is milled steel, weighs approximately 130 grams — 4.58 ounces — and measures 37.6 millimeters across. It also fits the RB100, RB202, RB250 and RB251.
A counterweight does two jobs at once. Its mass sets tracking force, and its position on the stub sets how much inertia the arm carries. Change the weight and you change both, which is why a counterweight is a component rather than a lump of metal.
The Original Part, Across Five Rega Arms
Fit and Materials
The weight is milled steel at approximately 130 grams and 37.6 millimeters in diameter. Both numbers are fitment figures rather than decoration: the mass sets the range of tracking force the arm can balance, and the diameter decides whether it clears the plinth and the dust cover as the arm sweeps across.
It fits the RB220, and Rega also lists it as compatible with the RB100, RB202, RB250 and RB251. If yours is a different Rega arm, check the model stamped on it — the counterweights are not interchangeable across the whole range.
Who Is This Counterweight Best For?
- You own an RB220, RB100, RB202, RB250 or RB251 — the five arms Rega lists for this weight
- Yours has gone missing — an arm without its counterweight cannot be balanced at all
- The thread has stripped — a weight that will not hold position drifts and takes tracking force with it
- You want the original — Rega's own milled steel part at the original mass
- You want to reduce the weight's diameter for clearance — that calls for a tungsten weight of the same mass, listed in turntable parts and add-ons
How Do You Fit It?
Slide the counterweight onto the arm stub from the rear. Balance the arm so it floats level with the stylus guard on and the cueing lever down, then set the tracking force from that zero point using the arm's own scale or a gauge. Check the weight clears the plinth through a full sweep before you play anything.
Pairs Well With
What most owners fitting a tonearm part shop next.
- Cartridge alignment tools — anything that moves the cartridge means re-checking geometry
- Stylus force gauges — and re-setting tracking force afterwards
- Phono cartridges — the component all of this is in service of
- Test records — for hearing whether the change landed
