Most subwoofers are bulky cubes that claim a corner of your floor. The REL Planar PL-2 is just 5.7 inches deep—it hangs flat on the wall like a framed panel, or sits close against one. Inside the slim cabinet, a front-firing 8-inch FlatPiston long-throw driver works with a rear 10-inch FibreAlloy passive radiator to dig all the way down to 24Hz—the deepest of REL's two Planar models, and built for medium-to-large rooms and home theaters.

The Wall Is Part of the Design

The PL-2 uses what REL calls boundary effect coupling: the wall behind it becomes part of the acoustic system, reinforcing low frequencies so a slim cabinet can fill even a large room. REL's VIMAR system (Vibration Isolation Material and Resonance Control), built into the mounting brackets, manages how the cabinet meets the wall—keeping the bass fast and clean instead of buzzing through the drywall.

Wireless Signal, REL-Grade Engineering

REL's AirShip Direct wireless system is included and pre-paired from the factory—no app, no setup, no long signal cable across your floor (a power cord is still required). The built-in Pure Class D amplifier is conservatively rated, delivering a clean 600 watts on REL's own test bench under hard use, and fully analog input filters preserve the natural speed and timing REL bass is famous for. Choose Piano Black or Gloss White lacquer. Interchangeable cloth and premium wood grilles let you fine-tune the look. Wood grills not included.

Is it really wireless?

The signal is—AirShip Direct comes in the box, pre-paired, so no signal cable crosses your room. The PL-2 still needs a power outlet nearby, so plan placement accordingly.

Do I have to mount it on the wall?

No. Hang it with the included bracket, set it close to a wall, or use REL's optional Planar Cart-2 to stand it on the floor and roll it to the best spot. Either way, the PL-2 is designed to work near a wall—the wall reinforces the bass.

How is the PL-2 different from the PL-1?

The PL-2 is the larger, more powerful Planar: a single 8" FlatPiston driver reaching 24Hz for medium-to-large rooms, versus the PL-1's dual 6.5" drivers and 31Hz extension for compact-to-medium spaces. Call us and we'll help you pick.

Yes. The High-Level Speakon input takes its signal from your amplifier's speaker terminals for a seamless musical blend, while the LFE input handles the ".1" channel from a home theater processor. REL designed it to do both.
