One Switch Turns a Transport Into a Ripper

There is a toggle on the back of the CR60. Set one way, it is a CD transport feeding your converter. Set the other, it copies the disc onto a USB drive. Nothing else needs to change.

Ripping happens with no computer anywhere in the picture: plug a drive into the back, load a disc, and the CR60 writes the tracks out as WAV files. Shanling's Eddict Player app adds FLAC when you would rather recover the storage space.

Underneath is a Philips drive with a Sanyo HD850 laser, reading CD, CD-R and CD-RW. The case is 200 by 180 by 50mm and weighs about 1.7kg, so it disappears onto a shelf.

Three Outputs and a USB-C Socket

As a transport it offers USB, coaxial S/PDIF and optical TOSLINK. The USB output is the useful one, because it plugs straight into the USB converters that most people already own.

Power comes over USB-C or from a 12-volt DC supply, which means the CR60 will run from a laptop charger or from a battery pack. Very few disc transports offer that kind of flexibility.

A 1.14-inch screen carries the track and status information, and there is nothing else to learn. Insert a disc, choose a mode on the rear switch, and the CR60 gets on with the one job it was built for.

How Does It Connect to Your System?

In transport mode, run USB, coaxial or optical to your converter, and it feeds the amplifier as before. Set the rear switch to transport and load a disc.

To rip, flip the switch and connect a USB drive instead. Power comes over USB-C or 12V DC, and the Eddict Player app handles FLAC output and settings.
