What It Does in Your System

A Proper Foundation for a Second System

Components sitting on a sideboard or a bookshelf pick up vibration from the floor and from the speakers in the room. A turntable feels it most, but amplifiers and disc players are affected too.

The S2-3 is Solidsteel's three-shelf rack for a bedroom, den, or office system — the same engineering as their larger racks, sized for a smaller setup. At 23.2 inches tall it puts a turntable at a comfortable working height.

Non-Welded Aluminum Supports

The pillars are aluminum rather than steel. Aluminum is lighter, very strong, non-magnetic, and damps well on its own.

More importantly, they are not welded. A hollow welded post rings — the weld point becomes a place where energy collects and resonates. Building the supports without welds removes that path, so vibration has a harder time reaching your components.

Thick MDF Shelves on Steel Spikes

Each shelf is 0.86-inch MDF, chosen because dense fiberboard absorbs energy rather than passing it along. The shelves are massive enough that they do not easily resonate against the supports.

Underneath, adjustable stainless steel spike feet drain mechanical energy into the floor and let you level the rack on an uneven surface. Protective floor discs are included for hardwood, tile, laminate, or vinyl.

Is This Right for You?

Measure before you order:

• Check the height of your components. The two lower compartments give 8.625 inches of clearance each. Most amplifiers and players fit easily, but a tall tube amp or a large power amplifier may not.
• The lower shelves are narrower than the top. The top platform is the full 23 inches wide; shelves two and three are 19.7 inches. All three are 16.9 inches deep. Wide components belong on top.
• Consider the S3 Series if you want more. The S3 racks add damping material inside the support tubes and raise capacity to 132 pounds per shelf, against 110 here. The S2 is the more affordable line and still well built.

Setup & Installation

The rack assembles from shelves and pillars, so allow some floor space and a little time. Build it where it will live — a loaded rack is awkward to move.

Fit the spikes into the underside of the bottom shelf. On carpet, let them bite through to the subfloor. On a hard surface, use the supplied protective discs. Adjust each spike until the rack sits level and does not rock, then load your heaviest component on the bottom shelf.
