What You Need to Know
What Is a Moving Coil Phono Stage?
Your turntable sends a very small signal through its needle. A phono stage makes that signal big enough for your amp to use.
Moving coil (MC) needles send an even smaller signal than most. So they need more boost. The Rega AOS MC is made just for MC needles. It does one job, and it does it well.
Why the AOS MC Matters
Rega has made turntables in England since 1973. They know vinyl inside and out.
The AOS MC uses a discrete circuit. That means it uses single parts, not all-in-one chips. This lowers noise. Less noise means more music and less hiss.
You can change the input loading. Loading sets how the phono stage reacts to your needle. The right setting helps your needle sound its best.
Gain is also adjustable. Gain is how much the signal is boosted. Since MC needles vary in output, you can dial in the right level.
Hand-Built in England
Each AOS MC is built by hand in Rega’s factory in Essex, England. This is where Rega makes its Planar turntables too.
The case is solid aluminum. It is compact and fits on a shelf or next to your turntable.
Who Is This Best For?
You have an MC needle and want a phono stage made just for it.
You own a Rega turntable and want gear that pairs with it.
You value hand-made build quality from England.
You want to tune gain and loading to fit your needle.
You want to step up from a basic phono stage and hear more from your records.
How Does It Connect to Your System?
The AOS MC uses RCA cables. Plug your turntable into the input. Then run a cable from the output to your amp’s line input (often marked “AUX”).
This is an MC-only phono stage. It will not work with moving magnet (MM) needles. If you have an MM needle, look at the Rega Fono MM MK5.

Features & Specifications
Clean, Quiet Signal Path
The AOS MC uses a discrete circuit. Each part is picked by hand for low noise. You get a quiet background and more detail in your music.
Adjustable Loading
MC needles work best with a certain load. The AOS MC lets you change this setting. That way, your needle sounds its best.
Adjustable Gain
MC needles have different output levels. The AOS MC lets you set the right amount of boost. Not too little. Not too much.
Precise RIAA EQ
Records are cut with a curve called RIAA. Your phono stage flips this curve back. The AOS MC does this with high precision. The result is natural, even sound.
Hand-Built Quality
Made by hand in England. The case is solid aluminum. It blocks out noise from nearby gear.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the AOS MC work with my moving magnet needle?
No. The AOS MC only works with MC needles. If you have an MM needle, look at the Rega Fono MM MK5. Not sure which type you have? Call us and we will help.
How do I set the right loading?
Your needle maker lists a load value in the specs. Set the AOS MC to match. If you are not sure, start with the default and adjust. We can help over the phone too.
Do I need a separate amp?
Yes. The AOS MC is a phono stage only. It boosts the signal from your turntable. You still need an amp or receiver to power your speakers.
How does it compare to the Rega Fono MC MK5?
The Fono MC MK5 costs less. The AOS MC has a more refined circuit and hand-built quality. It is the next step up when your system is ready for more.
What needles pair well with it?
It works with many MC needles. Rega’s Ania, Ania Pro, Apheta 3, and Aphelion 2 are great picks. MC needles from Dynavector, Hana, and Sumiko work well too.
Is it easy to set up?
Yes. Plug your turntable into the inputs. Run RCA cables to your amp. Set the gain and loading. Done. It takes just a few minutes.
Does it have a ground post?
Check with the maker for ground post details. Most phono stages have one. It connects your turntable’s ground wire and helps stop hum.
What else do I need?
You need a turntable with an MC needle, the AOS MC, an amp, and speakers. You also need RCA cables. Call us at 800-942-0220 if you want help building a full system.
