WHERE TO START
There are a lot of choices in digital audio. That’s okay. Here are four easy places to begin:
New to streaming?
A wireless music player connects to your Wi-Fi and plays music from apps like Spotify, Tidal, or Qobuz. No computer needed. Brands like Bluesound and EverSolo make it simple to set up.
Want better sound from what you have?
A DAC (digital-to-analog converter) turns digital music files into sound. Adding a good one between your source and your amp can make everything sound clearer and more detailed.
Want one box that does it all?
Many music streamers have a built-in DAC. That means you get streaming and sound conversion in one piece of gear. Just plug it into your amp or powered speakers and go.
Still love your CDs?
A good CD player paired with a quality DAC can pull out details in your discs you’ve never noticed before. Your collection deserves to sound its best.

UNDERSTANDING DIGITAL AUDIO
All digital audio gear does one basic thing: it gets music from a file to your ears. Each piece handles a different step. Here’s how the main pieces work.
What Is a DAC?
DAC stands for “digital-to-analog converter.” Your music files are made of data. Your speakers need an audio signal. A DAC is the piece in between. It reads the data and turns it into sound. Every phone and laptop has a tiny DAC inside. But a separate, dedicated DAC does the job much better. The sound comes through fuller, cleaner, and more lifelike. For many people, adding a DAC is the single best upgrade they can make.
What Is a Music Streamer?
A music streamer connects to your home Wi-Fi or ethernet. It pulls music from apps like Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz, or Apple Music. Think of it like a small computer that only plays music — and does it really well. Many streamers have a built-in DAC, so you can plug them right into your amp or powered speakers. Others send the signal to a separate DAC. The best streamers play hi-res audio, which means the files have more detail than what you hear from a phone.
What About CD Players?
CD players still sound great. A quality player can pull amazing detail from your disc collection, especially when paired with a good DAC. A “CD transport” is a player that reads the disc but sends the data to a separate DAC for conversion. Some of today’s best players — like models from Marantz — also work as streamers, so you can play both your CDs and your streaming apps from one box.
How Do They Connect?
A typical setup goes like this: your streamer or CD player sends a signal to a DAC. The DAC turns it into sound and sends it to your amplifier. Your amplifier drives your speakers. Some people use an all-in-one streamer with a built-in DAC. Others use separate pieces for each step. Both ways work well. The right choice depends on your budget, your system, and how you like to listen.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a DAC?
DAC stands for “digital-to-analog converter.” It takes your digital music files and turns them into sound your speakers can play. Every phone has one built in, but a separate DAC does a much better job. Music sounds cleaner, fuller, and more real.
What is a music streamer?
A music streamer is a small device that connects to your Wi-Fi. It plays music from apps like Spotify, Tidal, and Qobuz. You control it from your phone or tablet. Many streamers also have a built-in DAC, so you can plug them right into your amp.
Do I need a separate DAC if my streamer has one built in?
Not always. Many streamers — like the Bluesound NODE and EverSolo DMP-A6 — sound great on their own. A separate DAC makes sense later, when you want to step up in sound quality without replacing your whole streamer.
Will a streamer work with my current amp or receiver?
Yes. Most streamers plug into any amp or receiver that has a standard RCA or XLR input. A streamer is one of the easiest things you can add to a system you already have.
What music apps work with these devices?
Most of the streamers we sell work with Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz, Amazon Music, Apple AirPlay 2, and internet radio. Some also work with Roon. Check the product page for details, or call us and we’ll help you find the right match.
Is a CD player still worth it?
Yes. A good CD player or transport pulls out detail you might never have heard before, especially with a quality DAC. Many of our customers keep a CD player right next to their streamer. If you have a disc collection, it deserves to sound its best.
What cables do I need?
It depends on your setup. A USB cable connects a computer to a DAC. A coaxial or optical cable connects a CD player to a DAC. RCA or XLR cables connect a DAC to your amp. Browse our digital cables and interconnect cables to find what fits.
