What You Need to Know
What Is the A12 APEX?
The Advance Paris A12 APEX is the flagship of the APEX series — the most powerful and most specified integrated amplifier in the Advance Paris lineup. It uses ECC81/12AT7 vacuum tubes in a preamplifier stage, paired with a dual-mono Class A/B power amplifier delivering 190 watts per channel. “Dual-mono” means each channel has its own completely independent amplifier circuit and power supply, just as you’d find in a pair of monoblock power amplifiers. This maximizes channel separation and dynamic headroom.
Three features distinguish the A12 APEX from the A10 APEX and from the A12 Classic:
First, the ESS Sabre 9039 DAC. The A8 and A10 APEX use the ESS9018; the A12 APEX steps up to the ESS9039, which Advance Paris describes as enabling “ultimate audio fidelity.” The 9039 represents ESS Technology’s higher-grade DAC platform within the Sabre family.
Second, the doubled High Bias. All Advance Paris amplifiers with Hi-Bias mode push the output stage deeper into Class A operation on the first watts of output. According to eCoustics (December 2025), the A12 APEX doubles this bias current compared to the A10 APEX, providing “extra authority at higher power.” In practical terms, a larger portion of the A12 APEX’s output range operates in Class A before the circuit transitions to Class A/B.
Third, the A-BTC Bluetooth module is included as standard — the A12 APEX is the only model in the APEX series where Bluetooth is provided. The A-BTC module supports aptX AD-LL codec, which Advance Paris describes as enabling streaming from smartphones, tablets, or computers, and also transmitting any connected source signal to Bluetooth headphones.
APEX Platform Upgrades vs. Classic
Beyond the three A12-specific features above, the A12 APEX shares the full APEX platform upgrade over the A12 Classic: ESS Technology voltage regulators in the power supply, premium-grade resistors and capacitors, HDMI eARC replacing standard HDMI ARC, and the exclusive black finish with high-contrast white VU meters.
Connectivity
Eight analog inputs: five RCA (including MM/MC phono), two balanced XLR line inputs. Eight digital inputs: three optical, three coaxial, one USB (supporting 24-bit/192kHz PCM and DSD64/128), one AES/EBU, plus HDMI eARC. Dual speaker zones (A and B). Pre-out/amp-in for system expansion. Dual subwoofer outputs. 12V trigger in/out. 110–220V voltage selector. A-BTC Bluetooth module included.
Who Is This Best For?
You want the absolute best integrated amplifier Advance Paris makes — the flagship of the APEX series and the most powerful and specified integrated in the entire Classic/APEX lineup.
You want the ESS9039 DAC — the flagship converter in the Sabre family — built into your integrated amplifier.
You drive demanding loudspeakers that benefit from 190W per channel in a dual-mono architecture with independent per-channel power supplies.
You want built-in Bluetooth without purchasing a separate module, and you want the aptX AD-LL codec for high-quality wireless from any device.
How Does It Connect?
Connect speakers to the A or B terminals. Connect your TV via HDMI eARC. Connect a turntable to the MM/MC phono input. Connect digital sources via optical, coaxial, USB, or AES/EBU. Stream from your phone via the included A-BTC Bluetooth module. Pre-out connects to an external power amplifier or powered subwoofer. 12V trigger enables auto power-on from a connected device. The system remote operates the A12 APEX and the ACD APEX CD player.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the A12 APEX differ from the A12 Classic?
Both deliver 190W per channel in dual-mono with ECC81/12AT7 tube preamp. The APEX upgrades include: ESS Sabre 9039 DAC (vs. Burr Brown PCM1796 on the Classic), ESS Technology voltage regulators in the power supply, doubled High Bias bias current, Bluetooth A-BTC module included as standard, HDMI eARC (vs. standard HDMI ARC), and the exclusive 30th Anniversary black/white finish. The A12 APEX is a meaningful component-level refinement of the A12 Classic’s proven architecture.
What is the ESS Sabre 9039, and why is it significant?
The ESS Sabre 9039 is a higher-tier DAC chip in ESS Technology’s Sabre family, offering lower noise and distortion than the 9018 used in the A8 and A10 APEX. Advance Paris uses it exclusively in the flagship A12 APEX, describing it as enabling “ultimate audio fidelity.” In practical terms, it represents the best digital conversion stage available in the Advance Paris integrated amplifier lineup.
Is Bluetooth included, or do I need to buy a separate module?
Bluetooth is included as standard with the A12 APEX via the A-BTC module, which uses the aptX AD-LL codec. This is the only APEX amplifier where Bluetooth is included rather than optional. The A-BTC is a different module from the X-FTB01/02 used with the Classic series — it also allows the A12 APEX to transmit audio from any connected source to Bluetooth headphones or speakers, in addition to receiving wireless audio.
What does “doubled High Bias” mean?
High Bias mode biases the output transistors to run in Class A for a larger portion of the power range before switching to Class A/B. “Doubled” means the A12 APEX operates in Class A for a wider window than the A10 APEX — more of your typical listening volume happens within the Class A range. According to eCoustics (December 2025), this provides “extra authority at higher power.”
