What You Need to Know
What Is the SourcePoint 8?
The MoFi Electronics SourcePoint 8 is a premium standmount (bookshelf) loudspeaker designed by Andrew Jones, one of the most respected speaker engineers in the world. It shares the same concentric driver DNA as its acclaimed larger sibling, the SourcePoint 10, but in a more compact form factor that fits comfortably in small to medium-sized rooms.
The SourcePoint 8 uses a concentric driver design, meaning the 1.25-inch soft-dome tweeter is mounted right in the center of the 8-inch paper-pulp woofer. Both drivers radiate from a single point in space, creating what engineers call a “point source.” The practical benefit? A remarkably wide sweet spot, consistent sound from various listening positions, and precise stereo imaging.
This Bundle: Speakers + Custom Stands
This listing includes both the SourcePoint 8 speakers (pair) in Satin Black Ash finish and MoFi’s dedicated steel speaker stands (pair). The stands are custom-designed for the SourcePoint 8, with a three-pillar steel construction that brings the tweeter to seated ear height at 22 inches tall. The pillars can be filled with sand or lead shot for added mass and improved stability. Each pair of stands includes spikes (for carpet), spike plates, neoprene pads, and felt pads so they work on any floor type.
Buying speakers and stands together means you’re ready to set up and start listening as soon as the boxes arrive — no extra shopping needed.
What Makes It Special?
At the heart of the SourcePoint 8 is MoFi’s Twin-Drive high-flux neodymium magnet system — the same motor technology used in the SourcePoint 10. Two opposing neodymium magnets with copper sleeves create a symmetrical magnetic field, resulting in extremely low intermodulation distortion. In plain terms, the motor produces fewer unwanted sounds, so your music comes through cleaner and more accurate.
The 8-inch paper-pulp woofer uses a corrugated surround that allows for improved linear excursion while minimizing diffraction effects on the tweeter’s output. The crossover uses laminated-steel core inductors tuned at 1.6 kHz to seamlessly blend the woofer and tweeter. The cabinet is built from 3/4-inch-thick MDF panels wrapped in real wood veneer, with a sculpted, multi-faceted 1.5-inch-thick front baffle designed to reduce diffraction.
With 87 dB sensitivity and a nominal 8-ohm impedance (6.4 ohms minimum), the SourcePoint 8 is easy to drive with virtually any amplifier rated at 30 watts or more — tube or solid-state.
What Are Reviewers Saying?
Kalman Rubinson reviewed the SourcePoint 8 for Stereophile and concluded it is a balanced, wide-range speaker enjoyable at all practical volume levels. He praised the wide, deep soundstage and noted it is notably transparent and detailed. John Atkinson confirmed excellent measured performance and the specified 87 dB sensitivity. The speaker earned Stereophile’s Recommended Component status for 2025.
Neil Gader at The Absolute Sound (February 1, 2025) called the SourcePoint 8 the most satisfying compact he’d heard all year. He praised the forceful, controlled, pitch-accurate bass, and described it as a Golden Ear-worthy loudspeaker destined to stand the test of time.
Darko Audio (May 2024) praised the SourcePoint 8’s ability to handle both delicate and aggressive material with equal skill, calling it a real sonic communicator that conveys nuance whatever the genre. The reviewer found it equally at home with orchestral works, rock, and electronic music at high volumes.
Erin’s Audio Corner found the SourcePoint 8 to be subjectively better than the SourcePoint 10 in some respects, noting it is a more neutral speaker without the larger model’s high-frequency lift, with slightly less bass extension.
Steven Stone at futureaudiophile.com (July 2023) used the SourcePoint 8 as his primary nearfield reference for a month and praised the midrange for its detail, harmonic complexity, and imaging precision.
The SourcePoint 8 won the EISA Standmount Loudspeakers 2023–2024 award. EISA called it a technically innovative and stylish speaker with a smoothly integrated, full-range performance, providing a confident, engaging listen suited to small and medium-sized rooms.
Who Is This Bundle Best For?
You want a complete speaker-and-stand package ready to set up right away, with no extra shopping for stands.
You want the SourcePoint family’s concentric-driver sound in a more compact speaker for a smaller room or nearfield setup.
You prefer the sleek, stealthy look of Satin Black Ash real wood veneer.
You listen to a wide variety of music and want a speaker that handles everything with equal skill.
You own a tube or solid-state amplifier rated at 30 watts or more and want an easy, amp-friendly speaker.
How Does It Connect to Your System?
The SourcePoint 8 uses a single pair of 5-way binding posts on the back panel, accepting banana plugs, spade connectors, or bare wire. Bi-wiring and bi-amping are not supported.
Two rear-firing bass ports provide bass extension. MoFi recommends keeping the speakers at least two feet from rear walls for best bass response. Darko Audio found performance was best with the speakers firing straight ahead (no toe-in), about 70 cm from the front wall.
These are passive speakers — they need a separate amplifier or integrated amplifier to power them. With 87 dB sensitivity and a nominal 8-ohm impedance, they work well with amplifiers from 30 to 150 watts. If you need help choosing an amp, give us a call.

Features & Specifications
Concentric Driver Design
One Driver, One Point of Sound — The 8-inch paper-pulp woofer and 1.25-inch soft-dome tweeter share the same axis. This concentric arrangement means both drivers radiate from a single point in space, creating a wide sweet spot, consistent off-axis sound, and precise stereo imaging.
Twin-Drive Neodymium Magnet System
Cleaner Sound at the Source — Two opposing neodymium magnets with copper sleeves create a symmetrical magnetic field, eliminating flux modulation and delivering exceptionally low intermodulation distortion.
Corrugated Woofer Surround
Better Movement, Less Distortion — Instead of a conventional rubber surround, the 8-inch woofer uses a corrugated surround for improved linear excursion while minimizing diffraction effects on the tweeter’s output.
1.25-Inch Wide-Roll Soft Dome Tweeter
Extended, Smooth Highs — The oversized soft-dome tweeter with its wide-roll surround delivers smooth response extending to 30 kHz, benefiting from the waveguide effect of the woofer cone.
Sculpted Multi-Facet Baffle
Reduced Reflections — The 1.5-inch-thick front baffle is sculpted with swept-back facets that reduce diffraction for a cleaner, more accurate sound.
Included Custom Steel Stands
Purpose-Built for the SourcePoint 8 — The included 22-inch tall steel stands use a three-pillar design that can be filled with sand or shot for added mass. The 10 × 10-inch top plate matches the speaker’s footprint, and the wider 12.5 × 13-inch base plate provides a stable foundation. Multiple foot options (spikes, spike plates, neoprene pads, felt pads) are included for any floor type. Weight capacity: 30 lbs per stand.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s included in this bundle?
This listing includes the SourcePoint 8 speakers (pair) in Satin Black Ash finish and MoFi’s custom steel speaker stands (pair) with all foot options (spikes, spike plates, neoprene pads, felt pads). Speaker cables are not included.
How does the SourcePoint 8 compare to the SourcePoint 10?
The SourcePoint 8 is roughly 20% smaller in every dimension and about 18 pounds lighter per speaker. It uses an 8-inch concentric driver (vs. 10-inch), has slightly less bass extension (47 Hz vs. 42 Hz), and lower sensitivity (87 dB vs. 91 dB). Erin’s Audio Corner found the SourcePoint 8 to be a more neutral speaker without the slight high-frequency lift present in the SourcePoint 10. If your room is small to medium-sized, the SourcePoint 8 is an excellent choice. If you have a larger room and want more bass authority and dynamic scale, the SourcePoint 10 (or its Master Edition) may be the better fit.
What kind of amplifier do I need?
The SourcePoint 8 is amp-friendly, with 87 dB sensitivity and a nominal 8-ohm impedance. It works well with tube and solid-state amplifiers from 30 to 150 watts. Darko Audio reported that even a 25-watt Musical Fidelity A1 generated high volume levels. If you’re not sure what to pair with it, call us at 800-942-0220.
Should I toe these speakers in toward the listening position?
Andrew Jones and several reviewers recommend starting with the speakers firing straight ahead (no toe-in) for the best treble balance. The concentric driver design can have slight diffraction effects directly on-axis that are reduced when listening slightly off-axis. Every room is different, so experiment, but straight-ahead is a great starting point.
How far from the wall should I place them?
MoFi recommends at least two feet from rear walls. The SourcePoint 8 has dual rear-firing ports, so it needs room to breathe. Darko Audio found performance was best about 70 cm (roughly 28 inches) from the front wall.
Should I fill the stand pillars with sand?
It’s optional, but many audiophiles find that filling the pillars with sand or lead shot improves bass definition and overall stability. Play-grade sand from a hardware store works well. Fill to about 90% capacity to leave room for settling.
Is this the same speaker in all three finish options?
Yes. The SourcePoint 8 in Satin Black Ash, Satin Walnut, and painted Satin White are sonically identical. The only differences are cosmetic. This bundle is also available in Walnut with Stands and White with Stands.
Can I use a subwoofer with the SourcePoint 8?
Absolutely. The SourcePoint 8 extends to 47 Hz, which is impressive for its size, but adding a subwoofer can fill in the deepest octaves. Darko Audio noted the speakers sounded fabulous with a subwoofer for sci-fi soundtracks and electronic music.
What else do I need to complete my system?
Since stands are included in this bundle, you’ll need an amplifier (integrated or separate preamp/power amp), speaker cables, and a source component (turntable, CD player, music streamer, or DAC). If you’re building a system from scratch, call us at 800-942-0220 and we’ll walk you through the options.
