What Is the A10 APEX?

The Advance Paris A10 APEX is a hybrid integrated amplifier. That means it uses two different types of electronics working together.

The first part — called the preamplifier — uses vacuum tubes. Tubes are an older type of electronic component that many listeners find adds warmth and body to the sound. You can see the two glowing tubes through a window on the front panel.

The second part — the power amplifier — uses solid-state electronics. Solid-state means it uses transistors instead of tubes. This gives you stable, reliable power: 130 watts per channel into 8-ohm speakers, or 198 watts into 4-ohm speakers.

The A10 APEX is part of Advance Paris’s 30th Anniversary APEX series, launched in late 2025. It sits in the middle of the APEX lineup — more powerful than the A8 APEX, and one step below the flagship A12 APEX.

What Makes the APEX Series Different?

The APEX series is a step up from the Classic series. Advance Paris upgraded the internal parts throughout. Here is what changed:

• Better power supply — The APEX uses ESS Technology voltage regulators. These help keep the power supply quieter and cleaner, so the audio signal stays free from noise.
• Higher-grade parts — The resistors and capacitors inside are premium-grade components chosen specifically for the APEX tier.
• HDMI eARC — This is a newer, better version of HDMI ARC for connecting your TV. It supports higher-quality audio formats than standard HDMI ARC.
• Exclusive finish — The APEX series comes in a special black finish with high-contrast white VU meters. VU meters are the moving needles on the front panel that show you how loud the music is playing.

The tube circuit and overall design are built on the same foundation as the Classic series, but with better parts inside.

How Does It Compare to Other APEX Models?

The A10 APEX sits between the A8 and A12 in the APEX lineup. Here is a quick comparison:

• vs. A8 APEX — The A10 gives you more power (130W vs. 75W), dual subwoofer outputs, and MM/MC phono support instead of MM only.
• vs. A12 APEX — The A12 steps up to a dual-mono design with two separate power transformers (one per channel), 190W per channel, and a flagship ESS Sabre 9039 DAC. The A10 uses a single transformer and the ESS Sabre 9018 DAC. For most systems, the A10 APEX is excellent. If you have very demanding speakers or want the absolute best, the A12 is the step up.

• 3 optical inputs — For TVs, CD players, and other digital sources.
• 3 coaxial inputs — More options for digital sources.
• 1 USB input — Connect a computer or flash drive.
• 1 AES/EBU input — A professional-grade balanced digital connection.
• HDMI eARC — Connect your TV with one HDMI cable. eARC sends the TV’s audio to the A10 APEX and supports higher-quality audio formats than standard ARC.
• 2 subwoofer outputs — Two RCA outputs for one or two subwoofers.
• A/B speaker switching — Connect two pairs of speakers and choose which ones play.
• Pre-out and amp-in — For adding external components to your system.
• 12V trigger in/out — Lets the A10 APEX turn other components on and off automatically.

The A10 APEX delivers 130 watts per channel into 8-ohm speakers, and 198 watts into 4-ohm speakers. Having more power in reserve means the music stays clean and clear, even when you turn it up.

Hybrid Tube/Solid-State Design — Two Technologies, One Sound

The preamplifier stage uses two ECC81/12AT7 vacuum tubes. You can see them glowing through a window on the front panel. Tubes process the signal in a way that many listeners find adds warmth and a natural feel to the music. The power amplifier stage is solid-state, giving you reliable, stable output power. Together, this is called a hybrid design — and it is the same core approach used across the Advance Paris Classic and APEX lineups.

Hi-Bias Class A Mode — Smooth, Refined Sound at Lower Volumes

A switch lets you turn on Hi-Bias mode. When active, the amplifier runs its first watts in Class A. Class A amplification is a style known for smooth, refined sound at moderate volume levels. It is especially popular for late-night or detail-focused listening. When you need more power, the amplifier shifts to Class A/B automatically.

APEX Power Supply — Quieter, Cleaner Power Inside

The APEX series uses ESS Technology voltage regulators in the power supply. A voltage regulator keeps the power supply steady and quiet. Electrical noise in the power supply can get into your audio signal and reduce clarity. By using better voltage regulators, the APEX delivers a quieter background behind the music compared to the Classic series.

Premium-Grade Internal Components

Inside the A10 APEX, Advance Paris selected higher-grade resistors and capacitors throughout the signal path. These are the small components that shape and carry the audio signal. Better-quality parts tend to be more precise and more consistent, which helps the amplifier perform closer to its design goals over time.

ESS Sabre 9018 DAC — Great Sound from Digital Sources

A DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) turns digital audio — from a computer, TV, or CD player — into analog sound your amplifier can use. The A10 APEX has one built in. It uses an ESS Sabre 9018 chip, a well-regarded DAC chip. This means you do not need a separate DAC for most digital sources.

HDMI eARC — Your TV Sounds Much Better

HDMI eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) is a newer standard for TV audio connections. You connect your TV to the A10 APEX with one HDMI cable. The TV sends its audio back through that same cable. eARC supports higher-quality audio formats than standard HDMI ARC, including lossless formats. This is a rare and valuable feature in a stereo amplifier.

MM/MC Phono Stage — Connect Any Turntable

The built-in phono stage supports both MM (moving magnet) and MC (moving coil) cartridges. These are the two main types of turntable cartridges. Having both means you can connect almost any turntable without needing a separate phono preamp. This is an upgrade over the A8 APEX, which supports MM only.
