What It Does in Your System
The Top of the Rivers Series, Where Air Replaces Insulation
Yukon sits at the top of AudioQuest's Rivers Series, above Mackenzie and Red River, and it earns that position with a genuine construction change rather than a materials bump. This is a matched 2-meter pair connecting a source component — streamer, DAC, CD player, phono stage — to your preamp, integrated amp, or receiver.
Two meters is the length that covers separated shelves, a component on the opposite side of a rack, or a short run across a corner without excess to coil up.
Air-Tube Insulation, Because Air Absorbs Almost Nothing
Every solid material touching a conductor is part of an imperfect circuit. Insulation absorbs energy from the signal, stores it, and releases it late — which arrives at your ears as distortion and a subtle loss of focus.
Yukon uses polyethylene Air-Tube insulation, suspending the conductor so that most of what surrounds it is air rather than plastic. Air absorbs next to no energy, so there's far less to give back. You'll hear it as preserved dynamic contrast — the difference between quiet and loud stays intact instead of being gently compressed.
Purple Copper Plugs and Three Layers of Carbon Shielding
The plugs are pure Purple Copper with Hanging-Silver applied directly over the base metal and cold-welded to the conductors — no solder joint, and no intermediate nickel layer. Because the ground shells are stamped rather than machined, AudioQuest can choose the metal for low distortion instead of machinability. Purple Copper is cleaner and clearer than the nickel-plated or OFHC metals common in competing plugs.
Around the conductors sits a Carbon-Based 3-Layer Noise-Dissipation System, keeping RFI from reaching your equipment's ground plane, while Triple-Balanced Geometry gives the cable a separate ground-reference conductor so the 100% coverage shield is never asked to carry signal.
Is This Right for You?
A few things to confirm before ordering:
- Two meters covers most separated-component layouts. It's enough to reach across a rack or around a corner. Measure your actual path with the plugs seated, including the drop behind each chassis.
- You want the top of the Rivers Series. Yukon adds Air-Tube insulation over Mackenzie's construction. Mackenzie and Red River are both excellent cables — this is the step up for a system that will show you the difference.
- This is an analog line-level interconnect. It connects source components to amplification. It isn't a tonearm cable, a digital coaxial cable, or a subwoofer cable — AudioQuest builds dedicated designs for each of those.
Setup & Installation
Connect one cable to your source component's left output and the corresponding input on your preamp or amplifier, and the second to the right channel. Match red to red and white to white so your channels don't end up reversed. Push the plugs straight on rather than twisting — the cold-welded connection means there's no solder joint to stress.
The conductors are direction-controlled, and on AudioQuest cables the arrows indicate both metal directionality and the non-symmetrical attachment of shield and ground, so orientation genuinely matters. Run each cable from source toward amplifier as marked. Air-Tube construction relies on the conductor staying centered in its air space, so route the cable with easy curves rather than crushing it under a rack foot or forcing a sharp bend.
Features & Specifications
Polyethylene Air-Tube Insulation
Surrounding the conductor with air rather than solid material means almost no energy is absorbed and released as distortion, preserving dynamic contrast.
Solid Perfect-Surface Copper+ Conductors
Solid PSC+ prevents strand interaction and minimizes grain-boundary distortion while maximizing linear RF noise dissipation.
Cold-Welded Hanging-Silver Over Pure Purple Copper Plugs
Silver applied directly over purple copper with no solder joint, for a cleaner connection than nickel-plated or OFHC plugs.
Carbon-Based 3-Layer Noise-Dissipation System
Prevents captured RFI from modulating your equipment's ground reference, working alongside 100% shield coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a pair or a single cable?
This is a matched pair — two 2-meter cables, left and right. Everything you need for one stereo connection is included.
How is Yukon different from Mackenzie?
Both use solid Perfect-Surface Copper+ conductors, Triple-Balanced Geometry, a Carbon-Based 3-Layer Noise-Dissipation System, and Purple Copper plugs. Yukon's distinguishing feature is polyethylene Air-Tube insulation, which surrounds the conductor with air instead of solid plastic to reduce energy storage. It's the top of the Rivers Series.
What does Air-Tube insulation actually do?
Any solid material next to a conductor absorbs a little signal energy and releases it a moment later, which smears detail. By suspending the conductor in air, Yukon minimizes how much solid material is in contact with it. The audible result is better-preserved dynamic contrast and a more focused presentation.
