A 10-Inch Concentric Standmount, Refined
The SourcePoint 10 Master Edition is Andrew Jones's flagship standmount for MoFi Electronics. A 10-inch paper-pulp woofer carries a 1.25-inch soft dome tweeter at its center, in a 22.5-inch cabinet. The Master Edition adds an upgraded crossover with a tweeter level switch. The speakers are sold as a pair, without stands.
Jones chose a woofer with nearly two and a half times the area of a typical 6.5-inch driver. It barely has to move to make bass, which keeps the midrange clean. It also lets the crossover sit low, at 1.6 kHz. The cone doubles as a waveguide for the tweeter, so both drivers share one dispersion pattern.
What the Master Edition Changes
The new crossover uses polypropylene film capacitors, metalized-film resistors and air-core inductors. A three-position tweeter switch offers high, mid and low settings for damped, normal and bright rooms. MoFi sells the same crossover as an owner-installable kit for the original SourcePoint 10.
The Numbers, and What They Ask of You
MoFi quotes 42 Hz to 30 kHz, 91 dB sensitivity and 8 ohms nominal with a 6.2 ohm minimum. The minimum recommended power is 30 watts. The maximum input is 200 watts. Stereophile confirmed the 91 dB figure on the original version and found it an easy load, so small tube amplifiers work.
How Much Room It Takes
Each cabinet is 14.5 inches wide, 22.5 tall and 16 deep without the grille, and weighs 46.2 pounds. The walls are 1-inch MDF and the faceted baffle is 2 inches thick. Finishes are satin walnut with gray grilles or satin black ash with black grilles. A single pair of 5-way binding posts sits on the back.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Stereophile lists the SourcePoint 10 in Class B of its Recommended Components, 2024 through 2026. The entry cites John Atkinson's "clean, superbly well-defined low frequencies, the natural-sounding midrange" and Ken Micallef calling it "a contender for Loudspeaker of the Year."
Dick Olsher of The Absolute Sound gave the SourcePoint 10 a 2024 Golden Ear Award: "Expect a massive sweet spot and a superlative boogie factor." It reminded him of the single full-range driver speakers he has enjoyed in the past.
Hi-Fi Pig reviewed the Master Edition on September 19, 2025: "The sound is very even and balanced, but without sounding flat or sterile at all." The reviewer praised the treble switch and the included port bungs.
Who Is This Speaker Best For?
- You want a floorstander's scale without a floorstander — a 10-inch driver, 42 Hz bass and a huge sweet spot from a standmount
- You run a low-power tube amplifier — 91 dB sensitivity and an easy 8 ohm load mean 30 watts is plenty
- Your room is bright or heavily damped — the tweeter switch lets you match the balance to the room without equipment changes
- You already own SourcePoint 10s — the Master Edition crossover is sold as an upgrade kit, so you can reach this specification without new cabinets
- Your room or stands are small — at 46 pounds and 22.5 inches tall, this needs a sturdy stand and space; the SourcePoint 8 gives the same design in a smaller box
How Do They Connect to Your System?
Speaker cable runs from your amplifier to the binding posts on each cabinet, red to red and black to black. These are passive speakers, so there is nothing else to power. Set the tweeter switch to mid first, then adjust to taste.
Put them on sturdy stands about two feet from the rear and side walls, as MoFi recommends. Foam bungs are included for the ports if they must sit closer. Hi-Fi Pig found taller stands gave a better stereo image than low ones.
Pairs Well With
What finishes the setup. These are the categories most SourcePoint 10 owners shop next.
- MoFi SourcePoint 10 LSS low stands — MoFi's own low stands for the 10; conventional 20 to 24 inch stands rated for 50 pounds also work
- Speaker cables — a quality single run for each speaker
- MoFi UltraDeck turntable and MoFi StudioPhono phono preamplifier — a matching MoFi analog front end
- integrated amplifiers — 30 to 200 watts, any topology
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the SourcePoint 10 Master Edition sold as a pair?
Yes. The price is for two speakers with magnetic grilles. Stands are sold separately.
What does the tweeter switch do?
It raises or lowers the tweeter level in three steps. High suits heavily damped rooms, mid is the factory balance, and low tames bright, reflective rooms.
How much amplifier do they need?
MoFi recommends at least 30 watts and rates the speaker for 200 watts maximum. At 91 dB and 8 ohms, a small tube amplifier will play them loud.
Do I need a subwoofer?
Not for music. The SourcePoint 10 reaches 42 Hz and Stereophile praised its well-defined low frequencies. For film, a subwoofer adds the last octave.
I own the original SourcePoint 10. Should I upgrade?
MoFi sells the Master Edition crossover as a user-installable kit that adds the tweeter switch and the upgraded components. Call us for availability.
How is the 10 different from the SourcePoint 8?
The 10 has a 10-inch driver, reaches 42 Hz, is 4 dB more sensitive and has the tweeter switch. The 8 is two-thirds the size, lighter and reaches 47 Hz.
