A 1.2 Kilogram Acrylic Platter for the Essential, Elemental and Primary
The Pro-Ject Acryl it E is sold each, one platter per turntable. It is not a mat but a replacement platter, 300 millimeters across and 20 millimeters high, machined from acrylic with a satin surface. Pro-Ject cuts it for the Essential, Elemental and Primary.
A metal platter rings, and the felt mat that ships with it exists to damp that ring. Acrylic does not ring the same way, so the mat becomes unnecessary and the record sits directly on the platter — one fewer layer between the two.
Acrylic Instead of Metal Plus Felt
Fit, Load and Materials
The platter weighs 1.2 kilograms net, measures 300 millimeters across and stands 20 millimeters high, with a satin-finished acrylic surface. Acrylic behaves acoustically much like vinyl, which is the reason for putting the record straight onto it.
Fitting is a straight swap. Lift the stock metal platter off the sub-platter, set the Acryl it E in its place and refit the belt. The felt mat comes out permanently — the acrylic face is what the record rests on from then on.
It fits the Essential, Elemental and Primary, and those only, because the platters are cut to each family's sub-platter. Debut, Debut Carbon and Xpression owners want the Acryl it instead.
Who Is the Acryl it E Best For?
- You own an Essential, Elemental or Primary — the three decks Pro-Ject cuts this platter for
- Your metal platter rings when you tap it — acrylic does not, which is what makes the felt mat redundant
- You want the record on the platter — nothing in between, and no felt to hold a static charge
- You want a five-minute job — belt off, old platter off, new platter on, belt back
- You own a Debut, Debut Carbon or Xpression — those take the Acryl it, which is the version cut for that sub-platter
How Do You Fit It?
Slip the belt off and lift the stock platter clear of the sub-platter, felt mat and all. Lower the Acryl it E into place, refit the belt and spin it by hand to check it runs true. Put the record straight onto the acrylic, then re-check vertical tracking angle.
Pairs Well With
What most Acryl it E owners shop next.
- Record clamps and weights — an acrylic platter and a weight work on the same problem from opposite sides
- Turntable belts — worth replacing while the platter is off
- Cartridge alignment tools — a new platter changes record height, so geometry is worth re-checking
- Stylus force gauges — the other measurement to re-take afterwards
Frequently Asked Questions
How many do I need?
One. The platter is sold each and a turntable takes a single platter.
Which turntables does it fit?
The Pro-Ject Essential, Elemental and Primary. Debut, Debut Carbon and Xpression owners need the Acryl it, which is cut for that sub-platter instead.
Do I still need a mat?
No mat is required. The record goes straight onto the acrylic, which is the whole reason for changing the platter — the felt mat existed only to damp the metal one.
Will it change my tonearm setup?
Likely. At 20 millimeters it replaces a metal platter plus a felt mat, so the record may end up at a different height. Re-check vertical tracking angle once the platter is on.
