A Spiked MDF Base That Lifts a Debut or Essential Off the Shelf
The Pro-Ject Ground it E is sold singly. It is a heavy MDF platform in high-gloss piano finish, 480 by 390 millimeters (18.9 by 15.4 inches) and 51 millimeters (2 inches) tall on its spiked feet. It weighs 4 kilograms (8.8 pounds).
A turntable on a sideboard or shelf picks up footsteps and speaker energy through the furniture. Pro-Ject makes the Ground it E to sit in between: conical feet with damping rings carry the platform, and the turntable rides on the platform rather than the shelf.
Sized for the Debut, Essential and RPM Carbon Decks
Fit, Load and Materials
Pro-Ject publishes no load rating. It lists the Elemental, Essential and Debut lines, the 1Xpression Carbon and Carbon Classic, and the RPM 1 Carbon and RPM 3 Carbon as the turntables the base is made for. Any deck whose plinth fits inside 18.9 by 15.4 inches will sit on it.
The platform is 51 millimeters (2 inches) tall including the feet, and the feet adjust for height, so the base can be leveled on an uneven shelf. Allow 2 inches plus the turntable when checking a rack shelf or the space under a dust cover.
The Ground it E is the MDF rung of Pro-Ject's Ground it range. Pro-Ject says it works with its Cover it E and Cover it RPM 1/3 Carbon dust covers. The Ground it Deluxe bases above it add a heavier chassis filled with granular damping material.
Who Is the Ground it E Best For?
- You own a Debut, Essential or Elemental turntable — Pro-Ject sizes the base for these decks and matches their gloss finish
- Your turntable sits on a sideboard or bookshelf — the spiked feet and MDF mass put a platform between the deck and the furniture
- Your shelf is not quite level — the height-adjustable feet level the base, and the turntable sits level on top
- You use a Pro-Ject dust cover — the base works with the Cover it E and Cover it RPM 1/3 Carbon
- You own a heavier or larger Pro-Ject deck — the Ground it Deluxe 2 adds a granule-filled base for the same Debut and Essential footprint and up
How Do You Set It Up?
Clear the shelf and set the Ground it E where the turntable will stand, spikes down. Turn the feet until the platform sits level and does not rock. Lower the turntable onto it, centered, with its own feet on the platform. Re-level the turntable if its feet adjust. Cue a record and listen.
Pairs Well With
What most Ground it E owners shop next.
- Turntables — the component that gains most from a still, level base
- Turntable accessories — levels, mats and clamps for the same setup
- Phono preamplifiers — the next component in the vinyl chain
- Record cleaning accessories — a clean groove is the other half of quiet playback
Frequently Asked Questions
How many do I need?
One per turntable. The Ground it E is sold singly, and one platform carries the whole deck. Pro-Ject also offers it for other components, so a second base can go under a phono stage or amp.
Will my turntable fit?
The platform is 18.9 by 15.4 inches. Measure the plinth, including the feet, and allow room for a dust cover that hangs over the back. Pro-Ject lists the Debut, Essential, Elemental, 1Xpression Carbon and RPM 1 and 3 Carbon as the intended decks.
How much height does it add?
Two inches, including the spiked feet. Your turntable keeps its own feet and sits on top. Check the total against the shelf above or the inside of a rack.
What is the difference from the Ground it Deluxe?
The Ground it E is a solid MDF platform. The Ground it Deluxe bases are heavier, filled with granular damping material, and come in three sizes with spikes or magnetic feet.
Are the feet adjustable?
They are. The conical spikes thread up and down, so you can level the base on a shelf that is not quite true. Each one carries a damping ring where it meets the platform.
