Rega's Upgraded Drive Belt, for Any Rega Turntable
The Rega Advanced EBLT is sold each, one belt per turntable. Rega makes it, and it fits every Rega belt-driven turntable — so it serves both as the replacement for a tired belt and as an upgrade over the standard one.
The belt is the only connection between motor and platter. Any variation in its thickness turns into a variation in platter speed, which is why belt accuracy is measurable rather than a matter of opinion.
An EBLT Belt, and the Measurement Behind It
Fit and Materials
The Advanced EBLT is part of Rega's EBLT family, molded on Rega's own tooling to hold a consistent cross-section around its whole circumference. That consistency is what a drive belt is judged on, and it is where the speed stability comes from.
Rega publishes the comparison. On the same Planar 1, weighted peak wow and flutter measures 0.253% with the standard belt and 0.162% with the Advanced EBLT. The Reference EBLT takes it further again, to 0.075%.
It fits all Rega belt-driven turntables, which makes it the straightforward choice whichever Planar you own. Keeping a spare in the drawer is cheap insurance against a Sunday afternoon with nothing turning.
Who Is the Advanced EBLT Best For?
- You own any belt-driven Rega — Rega makes this belt to fit the whole range
- Your belt has gone slack or shiny — belts stretch and harden slowly, and speed drifts with them
- You want a measured improvement over standard — 0.162% weighted peak wow and flutter against 0.253%
- You like having a spare — a belt is the one part that will eventually stop the deck outright
- Your turntable is not a Rega — this belt is cut to Rega's dimensions, so find your maker's part in turntable belts
How Do You Fit It?
Lift the platter off — on most decks it lifts straight up, sometimes with a sub-platter under it. Slip the old belt off the motor pulley and the sub-platter, and wipe both with a clean, dry cloth. Loop the new belt around the sub-platter, then over the pulley, keeping it flat and untwisted. Refit the platter and spin it by hand before switching on.
Pairs Well With
What most owners replacing a belt shop next.
- Stylus force gauges — the other setting that drifts quietly over the years
- Record cleaning solutions — a new belt deserves clean records under the stylus
- Record brushes — a dry sweep before every side
- Cartridge alignment tools — worth re-checking whenever the platter comes off
Frequently Asked Questions
How many do I need?
One. The belt is sold each, and Rega turntables are single-belt designs.
Which Rega turntables does it fit?
All Rega belt-driven turntables. Rega makes the belt itself, so it is the original part rather than an aftermarket equivalent.
When should I replace a belt?
When it looks glazed, feels slack, or the deck takes longer than it used to to reach speed. A belt degrades gradually, so the change is easy to miss until a new one goes on.
