What You Need to Know
Squeeze in One More Shelf — the Smart Way
You bought your Vulcan rack thinking you had enough room. Then you added a streamer. Then a phono preamp. Now you're a shelf short, but you don't want a taller rack — your room can't take it.
That's where this add-on shelf comes in. With its short 5.25" posts, you can squeeze a new shelf into your existing rack without growing it much taller. Perfect for slim gear like streamers, DACs, phono preamps, and small power supplies.
The kit comes with everything you need: one full-size MDF shelf and four 5.25" steel support posts. Match it to your rack with finishes in Black, Carbon Fiber, Rosenut, or Espresso.
Why 5.25" Instead of the Standard 7"?
Here's the math. The standard Vulcan add-on shelf uses 7" posts, giving you about 7" of clearance between shelves. This one uses 5.25" posts — a bit less than 2" shorter.
That doesn't sound like much. But over a four-shelf rack, those saved inches really add up. You can fit more shelves in less total height. And many components — streamers, DACs, slim integrateds — only need 4" of clearance anyway, so the shorter posts are plenty.
One Pangea owner said adding a Vulcan shelf was "as easy as changing a light bulb." Just flip your rack upside down and bolt the new shelf onto the bottom. About 5 minutes of work.

Will This Fit My Rack?
This add-on shelf fits the following Pangea Vulcan products:
- Vulcan Audio Rack (3-, 4-, and 5-shelf models)
- Vulcan TT Turntable Stand

Note: This shelf is designed for the standard Vulcan rack line. It does not include the X-Brace crossmembers needed for the Vulcan X-Brace Audio Rack — that rack needs a matching X-Brace add-on shelf instead.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between this and the standard 7" add-on shelf?
Just the post height. The standard add-on shelf uses 7" posts, giving you about 7" of clearance between shelves. This one uses 5.25" posts, giving you about 5" of clearance. The shelf itself is identical. Pick this one if your new gear is short — streamers, DACs, slim phono preamps. Pick the 7" version for taller gear.
Will my gear fit under 5.25"?
Most modern slim components do. Streamers (like a Bluesound Node) are typically 2.5–3" tall. Many DACs and phono preamps are 1.5–3" tall. Slim integrateds and headphone amps usually fit too. Tall tube amps and big AV receivers won't — for those, get the 7" or 10" post versions instead.
Does this fit my Vulcan X-Brace rack?
No. The X-Brace rack needs a matching X-Brace add-on shelf with the side crossmembers. Adding a non-X-Brace shelf to an X-Brace rack would skip the bracing on that level and weaken the rigidity. Give us a call at 800-942-0220 and we'll point you to the right X-Brace shelf kit.
How do I install it?
Pretty simple. Flip your rack upside down. Unscrew the rack's existing feet from the bottom posts. Bolt the new posts onto the bottom of the rack. Set the new shelf on the new posts. Reattach the feet. Flip the rack back upright. Done — about 5 minutes total.
Can I add it somewhere other than the bottom?
Yes, but it takes a little more work. To add a shelf in the middle of the rack, you'll need to partially disassemble the upper section, slide the new shelf in, and rebuild. It's still tool-less, just a bit more handling. The bottom is always the easiest spot.
Do I need to match the finish to my existing shelves?
Not technically — but most folks want a matching look. We carry this shelf in all four standard Vulcan finishes (Black, Carbon Fiber, Rosenut, Espresso) so you can match exactly. If your rack uses an older finish that's been retired, give us a call and we'll see what we can find.
How many shelves can my rack hold total?
Up to six total. So a 4-shelf rack can grow to six. A 3-shelf can grow to six. Just keep total stand height under about 42" for best rigidity. If you're already maxed out, we can help you plan around that.
Can I mix 5.25" and 7" post heights on the same rack?
Yes. That's actually a smart way to use your rack space. Use shorter posts for slim gear, taller posts for amps and receivers. The threaded connections are the same, so they all work together.
Are returns easy if it doesn't fit?
Yes. Audio Advisor offers a 60-day money-back guarantee. If it's not right for your setup, send it back. Just keep the original packaging.
