What You Need to Know
The Stronger Way to Add a Shelf
Got an X-Brace rack and need more shelves? This is the kit you want. It's built to match the X-Brace rack's tougher specs — a thicker 19mm shelf and steel X-Brace crossmembers that bolt onto the sides for extreme rigidity.
Each X-Brace shelf holds up to 90 pounds — 20% more than a standard Vulcan shelf. So if you're parking a heavy power amp or vintage receiver on it, this shelf can handle it.
And here's the bonus: the X-Brace add-on also fits standard Vulcan racks (the regular 3-, 4-, and 5-shelf models) and the Vulcan TT Turntable Stand. So even if you don't own an X-Brace rack, you can use this shelf to upgrade one level of your existing rack with X-Brace strength.
What Makes This Shelf Different
Two things set the X-Brace add-on apart from the standard Vulcan add-on shelf.
First, the shelf itself is 27% thicker. Standard Vulcan shelves are 0.625" thick. This one is 0.75" (19mm). More mass kills more vibration and supports more weight.
Second, the kit includes two steel X-Brace crossmembers that mount on the sides of the shelf — two per shelf level. They bolt the posts together at that level, locking everything into a much stiffer unit. The result is a shelf that doesn't flex, even fully loaded.
Tool-Less Install in About 5 Minutes
Like every Vulcan add-on, this one needs zero tools. Just your hands.
To add it to the bottom of your rack: flip the rack upside down, unscrew the existing feet, slide the new posts onto the threaded rods, attach the X-braces, set the shelf in place, hand-tighten the side tubes, and reattach the feet. About 5 minutes of work.
One Pangea owner said adding a Vulcan shelf was "as easy as changing a light bulb." The X-Brace version is a couple extra steps for the bracing, but still simple.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between this and the standard Vulcan add-on shelf?
Two upgrades. The X-Brace shelf is 27% thicker (19mm vs. 0.625"). And it includes two steel X-Brace crossmembers that lock the posts together for added rigidity. Capacity also jumps from 75 to 90 pounds per shelf. Pick this one for heavy gear or for a noticeably stiffer rack.
Do I need an X-Brace rack to use this shelf?
No. The X-Brace add-on works with the standard Vulcan Audio Rack (3-, 4-, and 5-shelf) and the Vulcan TT Turntable Stand too. So you can upgrade just one shelf level of an existing rack with X-Brace strength — a smart, low-cost way to handle a heavy component without buying a whole new rack.
Where exactly do the X-Brace crossmembers go?
On the sides of the shelf level — one on each side. They bolt the four steel posts together at that level, locking everything into a stiffer unit. They don't block the back of the rack at all, so cable routing stays clean.
How do I install it?
Tool-less, just like the rest of the Vulcan family. To add it to the bottom: flip the rack upside down, remove the feet, slide the new posts onto the threaded rods, attach the X-braces, set the shelf in place, hand-tighten the side tubes, reattach the feet, flip back upright. About 5 minutes.
Can I add it somewhere other than the bottom?
Yes, but it takes a little more work. To add a shelf in the middle of the rack, you'll need to partially disassemble the upper section, slide the new shelf in, and rebuild. The bottom is always easiest.
How many shelves can my rack hold total?
Up to six. So a 4-shelf rack can grow to six. A 5-shelf can grow to six. Just keep total stand height under about 42" for best rigidity.
Can I mix X-Brace shelves and standard shelves on the same rack?
You can, but think it through. If you mix them, you only get X-Brace rigidity on the levels where you've installed X-Brace shelves. Some folks add an X-Brace level just where their heaviest gear sits — a smart targeted upgrade.
Why are there only three finishes when most Vulcan shelves come in four?
The X-Brace product line (rack and add-on shelves) is offered in Black, Rosenut, and Carbon Fiber — same as the X-Brace rack itself. Espresso is offered on the standard Vulcan racks but not the X-Brace line.
Are returns easy if it doesn't fit?
Yes. Audio Advisor offers a 60-day money-back guarantee. If it's not right for your setup, send it back. Just keep the original packaging.
